Southampton Boat Show

The feature boat line up at the 2007 Southampton Boat Show, in association with ITV Meridian, is more exciting than ever. World class yachts sailed or owned by famous names Sir Keith Mills, Mike Golding, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Sir Francis Chichester and Alex Bennett will be displayed throughout Show on the Hydropool Marina.

TEAMORIGIN: Great Britain’s Official Challenger for the 33rd America’s Cup
TEAMORIGIN will present, for the first time, its team members and newly branded race training boat at the 2007 Southampton Boat Show.

TEAMORIGIN was launched in January 2007 by Sir Keith Mills and is aiming to make sailing history by becoming the first British Challenger ever to win the America’s Cup. Team Director Mike Sanderson, the record-breaking ISAF World Sailor of the Year 2006 and winning skipper of the 2005-06 Volvo Ocean Race, is bringing together the best talent and highest quality assets to create a world-beating team. TEAMORIGIN has committed to participate in at least two America’s Cup campaigns, the 33rd and 34th editions of the event, likely to take place in 2009 and 2011. The team will be funded through a combination of private and commercial investment.

The newly branded race training boat will be at berth 72a from Friday 14 - Monday 17 September.

Mike Golding OBE and ECOVER
British round-the-world sailor Mike Golding's latest Open 60 ECOVER will be officially named by HRH The Princess Royal at the Show on Monday 17 September.
The Princess Royal will name the boat and become Godmother to the new Open 60, which has been constructed at Hakes Marine (Wellington, New Zealand) for the past nine months. After the naming ceremony, ECOVER will undergo sea trials as she is prepared for her first competitive outing in the Transat Jacques Vabre Race, a two handed battle across the Atlantic starting this November from Le Havre, France.
ECOVER is the second boat designed by Owen Clarke for Mike Golding to compete in the IMOCA Open 60 circuit which culminates in the ultimate solo race; the Vendée Globe.
Visit Mike Golding’s new boat on the Hydropool Marina, berth 72 from Sunday 16 - Tuesday 18 September.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, sponsored by Lombard
Sea-faring legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will be at this year’s Southampton Boat Show aboard his yacht, sponsored by Lombard, which he used in the recent round-the-world race.
Sir Robin-Knox Johnston – the first man to circumnavigate the globe non-stop and single-handed – has also won the Round Britain Race and the Jules Verne Trophy for the fastest circumnavigation. He recently completed his second round-the-world voyage at the age of 68.
See the boat sail into the Show on Thursday 20 September where it will be moored until Sunday 24 inclusive on berth 72 on the Hydropool Marina.

Gipsy Moth IV
Gipsy Moth IV will be on display on the Hydropool Marina at the Southampton Boat Show on Saturday 15 September.
Gipsy Moth IV is now back in the UK following her second round the world voyage, which saw her take nearly 90 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds on a voyage of a lifetime. Sir Francis Chichester’s iconic yacht was saved thanks to a campaign led by Yachting Monthly, who approached the United Kingdom Sailing Association (UKSA) to run the project and in November 2005, UKSA bought the yacht from the Maritime Trust for £1 and a gin and tonic.
Gipsy Moth IV has now joined UKSA’s fleet of yachts in Cowes and is being used to take young people on adventurous sailing trips in the Solent and beyond. Members of the public now have the opportunity to sail aboard Gipsy Moth IV on one-day, weekend and 5-day sailing experiences, the proceeds of which go towards the work with the young people and the yacht’s upkeep.
The British Marine Federation is proud to be a Classic Platinum Partner of Gipsy Moth IV.
Visit Gipsy Moth IV on Saturday 15 September on berth 72.

FUJIFILM
International yachtsman Alex Bennett is proud to announce a major new yachting campaign supported by a sponsorship deal with the Graphic Systems division of FUJIFILM UK Ltd.
The new campaign is built around an exciting new sponsorship deal involving the construction of a new racing yacht to compete in major oceanic shorthanded races such as the 2007 Transat Jacques Vabre and Single-handed Transatlantic race in 2009. The new yacht has been designed by the Owen Clarke Design Group specifically to conform to the new French Class 40 Rule (see www.class40.com for more info).
The state of the art 40’ boat was built in the United Kingdom in the West-Country, and took to the water in June 2007 in preparation for an exciting three year campaign.
See the boat on the Hydropool Marina, berth 72 on Wednesday 19 September.

Ocean Rowing Society
National Boat Shows, working exclusively with the Ocean Rowing Society (Int), is showcasing the ocean rowboat Puffin, which made the first attempt of the 20th century to row across the Atlantic Ocean in May 1966.
Graham Walters rediscovered the Puffin, and decided to row the Atlantic solo to finish what was started all those years ago. He successfully completed a 2,978 mile row over 99 days 8 hours from La Gomera to St Bart’s in the Caribbean. On landfall, the 15 foot Puffin became the shortest ocean rowboat to cross any ocean, and Guinness Book of Records will present Graham Walters his certificate at the Southampton Boat Show.
Graham will be hosting a seminar at the show on September 23 for future ocean rowers on how to row long distances, getting ready for an Atlantic crossing and how to find sponsors.
Puffin will be on berth 362 on the Hydropool Marina for the duration of the Show.
